Sokka feels left out when he is the only person in the gang who is unable to help stop a forest fire caused by a fallen meteorite from a meteor shower. However, in a nearby town, Sokka finds the sword master Piandao, who trains him in swordsmanship and helps him forge a blade out of aforementioned meteorite. After Sokka masters his training, Master Piandao gives him a White Lotus Pai Sho Piece, which is used by the members of the Order of the White Lotus. Meanwhile, Iroh devises a plan to escape the prison and starts training in secret.
